My stay at the hotel was quite the mixed bag. On the upside, the location was wonderful and the atmosphere was charming, giving a nice sense of history. However, I encountered some significant issues, especially with cleanliness and service. The place feels like it needs a good renovation and some serious attention from the management side.
Rooms
5.0
The room was certainly on the smaller side and cleanliness could have been better, as we found some stains on the linens.
Service
5.0
Service was noticeably lacking and at times felt rude. It was clear there was not enough staff on hand to cater to guests properly.
Location
9.0
The hotel is located in the Chautauqua Institution, which was quite desirable and made it easy to explore local attractions.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was minimal, and I found it not very satisfying. I was hoping for more variety and better quality.
Facilities

The hotel had some nice communal areas, but overall, the state of disrepair really affected my perception.

The hotel had a charming atmosphere that made it feel like stepping back in time, with lovely vintage decor. I greatly enjoyed the attention from the accommodating hosts, who truly made an effort to ensure a pleasant experience. However, the dining could use some improvement in availability, and the service felt slightly off at times. Overall, a memorable stay, but not without a few downsides.
Rooms
7.0
The room was unique with hand-painted details, but quite small and challenging to move around in. The theme was whimsical, making it feel like a hot air balloon, but the storm windows made it difficult to get some fresh air.
Service
7.0
Service was attentive and accommodating, though at times it felt like the host's dog received more attention than guests. Despite some misunderstandings, the staff did their best to assist.
Location
10.0
The location was excellent, right in the heart of the lakeside village and very close to Chautauqua Institute, making it convenient for exploring the area.
Dining
6.0
The dining experience was good but lacked some availability; when I arrived for breakfast just after service started, options were already running low.
Facilities

Our stay at the Spencer was extraordinary! The charming and themed rooms offered a unique experience that made our romantic getaway unforgettable. Plus, we were exceptionally welcomed by Helen and Dick, who made us feel right at home. However, we did encounter some issues with the elevator during our visit, which could be a concern for future guests. Overall, the warmth of the staff and the delightful breakfast made up for those hiccups.

Our stay at The Spencer was quite special for our anniversary, enhanced by the charming atmosphere and personalized attention from the hosts. While the overall experience was lovely, the room did leave some room for improvement in terms of condition. The dining experience could also improve; breakfast had its ups and downs. The location is perfect, being just steps away from local attractions, but I believe a few renovations would elevate the value.

Our stay at the Spencer Hotel was a mixed bag. The hotel boasts an enchanting atmosphere with unique literary themes, which was truly memorable. However, our experience was tarnished by housekeeping issues and a lack of professionalism in handling reservations. The location is delightful, nestled in the heart of the charming Chautauqua community, but the room quality did not meet our expectations.
Rooms

The rooms had beautiful hand-painted details that reflected a literary theme, but they were incredibly small and not very well maintained.
Service

The service felt a bit chaotic. We were told our reserved room was not available due to a credit card issue, which left us frustrated. Although the staff tried to be accommodating, it was clear they were overwhelmed.

The hotel’s public areas had great charm, but cleanliness was an issue, particularly in less frequently cleaned spots.
